The Hauser & Wirth Art Gallery in the LA Arts District
If you’re here, you’re here because you enjoy art museums and art galleries, which is perfect because this post is about my recent visits to the Hauser & Wirth art gallery in the Arts District in Los Angeles. My two visits here I actually came by train from Orange County (you can check out a blog post on how I did that here.)
Anyways, the Hauser & Wirth in LA is a relatively newer art gallery located in the LA Arts district that is completely FREE to visit! The Hauser & Wirth not only has art exhibitions but also hosts really awesome art and cultural events (like the Lit Lit Fest for example, an indie press event that popped on my radar and made me stumble upon this art gallery in the first place), as well as a gift shop, bookstore, and a bar and restaurant alongside a beautiful garden and stage.
This post is just some info about my visit along with some pics, links, and all that jazz! So lets get into the fun part: the art.
The art galleries
The Hauser & Wirth LA has 3 different art gallery rooms that you can walk through, gallery rooms A, B, and C which come at no cost to you at all :)
On my first visit, I was really impressed by the art installation I got to see in gallery room A (which is the gallery room closest to the bookstore and entrance). It is a two-story room with high ceilings and I was blown away by the art installation in this gallery room, pics below.
I really wanted to check out this art gallery not only because of the Lit Lit Fest but because of the fact that they have a lot of art installation type of art, which is something I’m really into actually.
Instead of having placards alongside each individual art piece, there are desks with QR codes you can scan that link you to the press release if you want more info about the art and the artist. I unfortunately don’t have the link for the installation above but I have links for the art from my most recent visit.
As for my most recent visit, gallery room A had an exhibition that consisted of experimental quilt art that that was actually really fascinating, some pics of my favorite pieces I saw and links below.
I really enjoyed the piece of the young Black girl; I just think the amount of detail that went into the portrait is really incredible, especially considering it’s quilt medium which is not something you see very often.
I also wandered into gallery room B and encountered the Cindy Norwell exhibition which consisted of her self-portrait photography! I really enjoyed the room with her black & white photography the most and the themes of her self-portraits. Photos of some of my favorite photos and links will be below.

I would definitely try to make it out to these exhibitions in person if you can, they’re definitely worth seeing in person. The exhibitions are switched out into the gallery rooms every 3 months.
The giftshop and bookstore
Another thing I really enjoyed about the Hauser & Wirth LA, is that literally everywhere you go its like super ~aesthetic~ if you know what I mean. The giftshop carries a lot of beautifully crafted artisan items and very fancy art books. It feels like going into a sophisticated candy shop.
As for the bookstore, I was really excited by their wide selection of art and photography books, essay books, and adorable notebooks and postcards. It was definitely tempting for me to buy something. I actually took a pic of a book that’s going on my “want to read” Goodreads list.
I will also be putting a mirror selfie pic of me in the bathroom, which also was an aesthetically pleasing area lol.
The restaurant & bar and garden
Something I think would be really interesting to foodies especially is the restaurant and bar inside the Hauser & Wirth. When I was speaking to one of the workers at the bookstore, she told me that the dishes made in the restaurant were actually cooked from ingredients from the small garden they have. Which makes the restaurant understandably more on the pricey side but I think it might be worth trying if you have the interest and mula for that type of thing
Even if you don’t go to eat or drink at the restaurant and bar, there is a small seating area where you can sit, have a coffee, and just relax for a bit. I actually got a matcha latte from Groundwork before going into the galleries (they don’t allow food or drinks inside the gallery rooms) and it was really nice actually.
So that’s about it for this post! If you’d like to know more about the Hauser & Wirth, check out their website at: hauserwirth.com and be sure to subscribe to their newsletter! They have galleries in the U.S. and across the globe!
