Art Accounts to Follow on Instagram
During the early days of social distancing as an art lover, I honestly felt that my Instagram was lacking in the art department of things to inspire me on my Instagram feed. I usually would discover more artists through Pinterest for the most part, but I just felt that I could follow some art accounts to spruce up my feed with some art in the same way my Pinterest usually is filled with more creative inspo, especially since it appeared that I ran that avenue dry. I have honestly stumbled upon some really great artwork and artists in the process and just wanted to share all of these art accounts (and the artwork that reeled me in) with you all.
Saatchi Art
This is an Instagram account I decided to follow because of some portrait expressionism and impressionism style paintings that I got exposed to through the Pinterest algorithm. I absolutely love this page’s focus on posting more expressionism paintings and impressionism paintings and more colorful abstract style art (which are the styles that I particularly gravitate towards). This page also posts a lot of photography, which I also really enjoy. On their website they have paintings and art prints up for purchase from the artists they support, so I would highly recommend checking out the website if you have the money to purchase some paintings or art prints for your home.
Colossal
This is another Instagram account I found through the Pinterest algorithm. Colossal is an art media group that covers various art exhibitions and they actually have a newsletter where they share different art exhibitions, galleries, and more. I had to give them a follow because I love love love the art installations they cover, they have honestly shared art installations that I would now consider to be my all time favorites and have greatly inspired my poetry and writing on a very deep level. I would highly recommend giving them a follow if you’re into really extravagant and unique art installations and signing up for their email newsletter to keep up to date with the other art media coverage that they do.
The Great Women Artists
I don’t really remember how I managed to discover this account (I believe directly through Instagram? Like I said, not sure) but I am really glad I did. This page curates art from female artists, which is something I find really refreshing because of how pervasive the issue of a lack of female representation in the art world (not to mention the lack of BIPOC and queer folks on top of that) is. I love the paintings that they publish and this is a great page to start looking for more female artists to aspire to, they also have a podcast I’ve been meaning to listen to and check out for a while.
Unit London
I believe I discovered this account through the Instagram algorithm and was attracted to a very specific painting and decided to follow. I really enjoy their showcasing of unique portraits that combine more pre-modern with contemporary style of art. Unit London is a lot like Saatchi Art with the way they mostly showcase abstract paintings with a slightly more unique approach with the pieces they pick. Really love how they’re mostly paintings and they also sell artwork from the artists they support on their website, so I would definitely check out their site if you’re looking for artwork for your home.
